In July 2025, Wizards of the Coast launched its “Arcane Subclasses” playtest, which featured nine new subclasses for the D&D 2024 rules, all of which were focused on magic. At the time, however, it wasn’t entirely clear what sourcebook these character options would appear in.
Now, we have finally an answer, with Wizards of the Coast officially unveiling a new D&D supplement entitled Arcana Unleashed. Slated for release in September 2026, the book is designed primarily for players, featuring new character options, spells, magic items and new rules for artifacts that level up along with their owners.
So will Arcana Unleashed be a spellbook worth adding to your magical D&D library? Below, we conjure up all the details.

What is the “Arcana Unleashed” D&D sourcebook about?
by Wizards of the Coast as a “high-magic sourcebook,” Arcana Unleashed includes nine new Arcane subclasses which were featured in a July 2025 Unearthed Arcana playtest (and later updated again forSeptember 2025). These are the Arcana Domain Cleric (which first appeared in Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide) the Arcane Archer and Hexblade Warlock (which both appeared in Xanathar’s Guide to Everything) and the Wizard subclasses of Enchanter, Necromancer and Transmuter (which first appeared in the 2014 Player’s Handbook). The book also includes two brand new subclasses: The Tattooed Warrior Monk and the Ancestral Sorcerer.
In addition to the player options, the Arcana Unleashed sourcebook will also new magic items, artifacts and spells and customization options. Among these will be a new “evolving” magic item system, that allows magic items to grow in power as characters level up.

When will Arcana Unleashed be released?
Arcana Unleashed will be available in September 2026 (an exact date has not yet been confirmed by Wizards of the Coast). As with previous D&D books, if you pre-order from D&D Beyond and local game stores who has opted into the early release program, you’ll be able to receive digital and physical copies several weeks earlier.
The book will also be a major part of the new D&D Seasons, which is a concept that connects new books and community events around a specific theme. In the case of the Arcana Unleashed it will be part of the“Season of Magic” which runs from July to September 2026 and will include tie-in products and organized play events tied to high magic.
How much is the Arcana Unleashed sourcebook?
The physical hardcover book will retail for $49.99 USD (not including shipping and handling). This suggests it will likely be a bit smaller in size than typical supplements, which have a higher price point. For example, the new Ravenloft: The Horrors Within sourcebook is retailing for $59.99 USD.
Notably, the price point for the D&D Beyond digital version has also not yet been confirmed, but will likely be around the $29.99 USD mark.

Is there an alternate cover of Arcana Unleashed?
Yes, as with other recent D&D books, there is alternate cover of Arcana Unleashed. The price is exactly the same as the regular version and it will be available online and at local game stores. The alternate cover is illustrated by Polish artist Couple of Kooks who has contribute art to numerous other D&D products, including interior work featured in the 2024 Player’s Handbook and 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide. He also contributed the alternate cover to the 2024 Book of Many Things supplement.

What other tie-in products will be released?
In addition to the main sourcebook, Wizards of the Coast will also be releasing a new tie-in adventure expansion entitled Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall, which involves a war taking place between the Red Wizards in the nation of Thay in the Forgotten Realms. We’ll also see a tie-in new D&D Spell Cards (based on material from the 2024 Player’s Handbook).
The book is also a major part of D&D Seasons, which are specific periods of time in which new books, accessories and organized play events will be all focused around a single theme. The “Season of Magic” runs from July to September 2026. We may also see tie-ins for the recently restarted D&D Encounters program, which is designed to bring more players into local game stores.

Final Thoughts
Magic is, of course, a major part of Dungeons & Dragons, yet we haven’t really seen a dedicated sourcebook like Arcana Unleashed in the modern 5E era. It’s also interesting to see a supplement that more heavily geared towards players than Dungeon Masters, presenting both new and updated subclasses. Whether this content will cast a spell over D&D fans, however, remains to be seen.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on Arcana Unleashed in the weeks ahead and will update this page with new information as it’s available.
